Thursday Tracks- 27/10/16

Wow. I feel like it’s been so long since we’ve posted anything. That’s probably because it has.

I’m really sorry about that. We’ve been busy and now we’ve kinda fallen out so realistically I don’t know whether this blog will survive our fall out. But I hope it does, because there’s something nice about having it, and something relaxing about updating.

So, today, for Thursday tracks, I’m gonna do some songs to listen to when you’re feeling mad at someone.

I’ve used these songs a lot and they always make me feel a lot better, so I thought I’d share them.

Be prepared for A LOT of Taylor Swift.

Let’s go.

First of all is Mean (by Taylor Swift).

Mean is an anti-bullying song with the rousing chorus “some day, I’ll be, living in a big old city, and all you’re, ever gonna be is mean.” It’s one of Taylor’s more country songs with the banjos, tambourines, and goat.

Next on this whirlwind tour of Taylor Swift songs to make you feel better about bullies is Picture to Burn.

My favourite line is “So watch me strike a match, on all my wasted time, as far as I’m concerned, you’re, just another picture to burn.” This line always makes me feel loads better. And the music video for this one has some great revenge ideas so long as you’re okay with breaking and entering…

Next is one that I try to avoid when I’m feeling mad or sad as it’s a pretty sad song (I adore it though as it’s amazing). However, sometimes a bit of wallowing in self-pity and some crying can be good, and make you feel better, so here’s White Horse:

All the lyrics in this one are perfect, along with the gorgeous melody and heart-breaking video. Honestly, I adore this song, from the opening with “Say you’re sorry, that face, of an angel, comes out, just when you need it to,” through the chorus of “I’m not your princess, this ain’t a fairy tale, I’m not the one you sweep of her feet, lead her up the stairwell, this ain’t, Hollywood, this is a small, town, I was a dreamer, before you went and let me down, now it’s too, late, for you, and your white horse, to come around,” all the way to the ending of “oh it’s too late, to catch me now.” AND Taylor manages to cry for the entire music video, which (though it sounds stupid and lame) is very hard to do and a  great achievement.

And finally, another brilliant, fiery, Taylor Swift song, comes Better Than Revenge.

With the uber-satisfying-to-sing-along-to chorus (it actually is- try it) of “she’s not a saint, she’s not what you think, she’s an actress, whoa whoa, she’s better known for the things that she does, on the mattress, whoa whoa.… she should keep in mind, there is nothing I do better than revenge *laugh* “. It’s wayyyy too satisfying to pretend to sing to the person you’re mad at.

When my friend was younger she listened to the song, and assumed this lady that Taylor hated was a gymnast, coz what else would she be doing on a mattress?!? My sister asked what Tay meant, and I said the lady slept all the time when she should be working. Ah, the naivity of children.

I think that’s all for now, so I hoped you enjoyed this and hopefully see you tomorrow for another post!

Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Popular Books I Haven’t Read Yet

It’s Tuesday! Which means it’s time for another top ten Tuesday. We haven’t done of these in a long time…in fact we haven’t really done ANY posting in a long time…sorry! We’ve just been quite busy with school and stuff, but as the summer holidays are nearing we can hopefully get back to our normal posting routine.

Today’s TTT is a freebie one, which means we can write about a topic of our own choice. Last week’s topic, which we missed, was ‘Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The Second Half Of The Year’. I think that was quite an important post to write about, so I might catch up and do that another time, as it’s always exciting to see which books we have in store for the next few months!

For my freebie topic, I decided to choose ‘Top Ten Popular Books I Haven’t Read Yet’…there’s lots I need to read, and most of the ones in the list below are part of my Summer TBR so let’s hope that by the end of summer I’ll have read these!

Anyways on to the TTT!

  1. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis

It’s kinda sad because I’m pretty sure everyone read this book when they were 8 and I still haven’t read it. Everyone tells me to read it seeing as I’m obsessed with Harry Potter and this is a fantasy classic just like HP, but if I’m honest it actually doesn’t look that interesting….I think I might read it SOMETIME just to see why it’s so popular, but you know…

2. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien

This is another one that’s always recommended to me because of Harry Potter…I’ve tried reading it twice but the first chapter is soooo boring, I just can’t seem to get into it! It’s like, a 50 page description of Middle Earth or whatever and I just feel it’s kinda confusing.

3. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

This is such a popular book but I’ve just never been able to get round to it! It’s been sitting on my shelf for quite a long time, and three months ago I vowed I would read it ‘next week’ but here I am, it’s June, no progress has been made…hopefully I will get round to it in Summer.

4. The Selection by Kiera Cass

The Selection is such a popular book, I swear EVERYBODY has read it but me…I will get round to it though, hopefully by the end of this month (I just realised it was 28th June but let’s assume it’s July). It does look quite interesting although there has been reviews that it sorta makes women seem weak, but I’ll have to see.

5. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

This is another book which so many people have read, and when it came out there was so much buzz, almost every blog was talking about this. I’ve got the book so I will read it over my summer holidays, and I’m excited to see what all the hype was about. It’ll also be my first Alexandra Bracken book and she’s apparently a very good author, so maybe this will give me a good taste on her books.

6. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

I’ve been wanting to read this book for sooo long, you don’t even know. I love fairy tale retellings and I feel like I haven’t read enough of them, so I really want to read this book but I just cannot seem to get hold of it!

7. A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab

I started reading a chapter of this a little while back but I stopped to read Illuminae, as I was in a huge slump and Illuminae seemed like a quick read. The little that I read of ADSOM seemed great, so I can’t wait to restart it!

8. Landline and Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I love Rainbow Rowell’s writing and Carry On, Fangirl and Eleanor and Park are definitely some of my favourite books. I’m hoping Landline and Attachments will provide the same funny writing style as her other books did!

9. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

This is another one that has received a lot of hype, and even has a movie adaptation that seems quite action packed and thrilling. I haven’t read a dystopia in a while, and I’m hoping I will be able to read The 5th Wave over summer (gosh, I’ll have a lot of reading) too.

10. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Again, so much hype. It also looks super interesting, and has been recommended to me quite a few times, so I’d really like to read it!

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Musing Monday + Weekly Wrap Up (June 06)

Hi all! This is the first Musing Monday + Weekly Wrap Up we’ve done since the end of April so…whoops! For those of you who don’t know, Musing Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Jenn @ Books And A Beat. Every Monday we answer a couple of the weekly prompts, and then talk about the weekly musing. You should definitely take a look at Jenn’s blog, as it’s really good! She hosts quite a few other memes too, which you may have heard of, so it’s worth a look!

Weekly Wrap-Up prompts:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

This week’s musing:

What is your most favorite book from your childhood?

Weekly Wrap Up:

I’m currently reading..

Right now I’m reading Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I was originally in a reading slump, and was ‘reading’ A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab, but I just really didn’t feel like it. I decided to read Illuminae instead, as it looked like a quick read.

Up next I think I’ll read…

Hopefully I can get back to A Darker Shade of Magic next, if not then I will read A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray.

I bought the following books in the past week…

On Friday I bought Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It looks so interesting, especially because it’s such a different format! As I’m reading it, I can’t help but get completely engrossed in the book – I just love the way it’s laid out! I also bought Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. This is a book which everybody has been talking about, so I really want to see what it’s about. It’ll be the first Alexandra Bracken book I’ll read, so fingers crossed I like it!

I can’t wait to get a copy of…

I  really, really want to read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I’ve reserved it at my library so I should have it by the end of this week, but it looks sooo amazing! Especially as now the movie is near its release, so everywhere you go you see adverts and posters for the movie. My friend did spoil the ending for me, so that’s pretty sad, however I’m going to try and forget what happens so I still enjoy the book!

What we blogged about last week…

Usually we’d do what we blogged about since our last Musing Monday, but since that was quite a long time ago, I’m just going to list the posts between now and last Monday.

  1. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Book Review + Exciting Cursed Child News
  2. Cover Comparison + Cursed Child Updates
  3. Thursday Quotables – Thursday 02 June + Cursed Child Updates
  4. Thursday Tracks 2/6/16 – #5
  5. A – Z About Me Tag (Lynette)
  6. Daily Lives of High School Boys
  7. Fairy Tail Chapter 487 Thoughts and Discussions
  8. Death Note
  9. Reading Blind – Discussion
  10. Liebster Award

This week we’ll be back to doing our memes – Top Ten Tuesday, Thursday Quotables, Thursday Tracks and maybe When I First Saw You, if we can manage it. We may also post a few tags/awards, as we have been nominated for quite a few. Other than that, there may be the odd post here or there :).

Weekly Musing

So today’s question is ‘Favourite childhood book’ and I honestly do not know if I had an ultimate favourite. I know when I was around 7/8 I was obsessed with Enid Blyton’s books, especially the Naughtiest Girl series and Malory Towers. I also really liked the Rainbow Magic books by Daisy Meadows. A little after that, around age 9, I became obsessed, and this is hardcore obsession with posters all over my walls and everything, with Jacqueline Wilson. But I think throughout that whole period I was, as I am now, crazy obsessed with Harry Potter. So yeah :), what was your favourite childhood book?

Thursday Tracks 2/6/16 – #5

Ok, so, yesterday I went back through some of my old Thursday Tracks and I realised something: I promised you guys an extra special many weeks ago, and completely forgot. Problem is, I also promised you (and Vibha) that this week she would be helping. I had a very deep and meaningful Thursday Tracks planned. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to write an extra long double one for all our wonderful readers!

(A short note: This blog is doing so much better than we expected, and every time I look at the stats I get a (pleasant) shock. Everyone who has read our posts, liked, commented and followed, you’re all amazing and I love you all so much)

So, I’ll start off with what I was trying to do when it deleted. I was going to use the same songs that it came up with but I can’t remember them so I’ll find some new ones.

As I can’t think of a song that I haven’t already used to sum up my week (this will probably happen more and more often- be warned) I’m going to take my playlist on Spotify and hit shuffle play. Then, I’ll take the first 3 songs that come up and choose a favourite. Let’s go!

(Before we start, can I ask if anyone else has been experiencing their Spotify doing weird things when on Shuffle? When I say weird, let me show you what I mean. I’ve been having many laughs over these:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Anyone else’s Spotify doing that? Or is it just mine…)

So, time for some Spotify shuffle play. Are you ready?

Song 1: Who’s Laughing Now by Jessie J

Song 2: Love Me Like You by Little Mix

Song 3: Kiss Me Kiss Me by 5sos

Ok, so, Who’s Laughing Now is a song that I loved when it came out. My friend and I made countless music videos, dance routines and even entered the chop talent show with it. However, since then I’ve started to lose my love for it a little. I still like it a lot, but there are better songs out there.

Love Me Like You is just 👌. I love that song so much. And the music video ❤️💛💚💙💜! It’s so catchy too!

And Kiss Me Kiss Me is also sooooooo catchy. I think out of all these songs that one is probably my favourite.

I know this was a little random (and shorter than I hoped- I’m going out for dinner now) but I hope you enjoyed it! Please like, comment and follow (and please read the rest of this too!)!!!!!!

Now I wanna look at something more serious. I did a car boot sale the other day, and I got chatting to the little girl at the stall next to me. She (like little kids do) was talking about just completely random subjects. After a while she picked up the cardigan she was sitting on and asked me to guess who’s it was. She told me it wasn’t hers or her mum’s. So I guessed grandma’s, and she said

“No, it’s my aunts. Even though she’s dead apparently. Cancer.”

She pulled a face on the last word, and it just made me really sad that someone young like that had lost someone to cancer, especially as I lost my great aunt (I didn’t really know her well and she was ill for a long time but it was still sad).

And then Vibha was talking about an MCR song (I can’t remember which one) about cancer, and so I decided we should do something serious on cancer. First I’m gonna raise some awareness for a Taylor Swift songs about cancer, and then Vibha can look at her song. This seems kinda pointless, but please, if you’re reading this, do something to help. Whether you buy Taylor Swift’s song (all proceeds go to finding a cure for children’s cancer), donate some money or do something a little hands on, please. Let’s stop cancer together.

So, Taylor Swift’s song is called Ronan. It’s a heartbreaking song based on a true story. There was a little boy called Ronan who developed cancer. His mother kept a blog called Rockstar Ronan about the struggles they were going through, and to raise awareness. Poor Ronan died 3 days before he turned 4.

Taylor read the blog and then wrote this song using quotes from it, to raise awareness. All the proceeds from the song go to finding a cure to children’s cancer.

I listened to the song and read the blog and I’m not ashamed to say that I cried. I cried for the little boy who never got to experience the world. I cried for the parents who never got to see their son grow old. I cried for the little sister born after Ronan died, who is still too young to know what happened to him, and draws pictures for him and asks when she can meet him.

Cancer not only takes the person’s life, it takes their future, and often their family and friend’s happiness with it.

Please, listen to the song and read the blog, and raise awareness and help this worthy cause.

My song is called Cancer by My Chemical Romance. Now I didn’t know what Mia wanted me to do for today’s Thursday Tracks, she just told me to read the draft and I’d know what to do. Coincidentally, my mum signed me up for Race for Life a few days back. For those of you who don’t know, Race for Life is basically a run to raise money for cancer. I’m terrible at running and I’m super unfit, but it’s for a good cause so :).

This is a really old song, and it doesn’t have an official music video, but if you watch the Youtube link above, you’ll see that someone has put together a random commercial to fit the lyrics to the song. The lyrics to the song are really sweet, do listen to it. And although the video is just a commercial, if you look past that you see a little girl with an older brother, who has cancer. His hair has fallen out, so when the girl is left alone, she cuts all her hair off, to give it to her brother. It’s really sweet, because she thinks that by giving him her hair, he will be cured, he will be alright, but it’s not that simple 😦

Thanks for reading! We know that post was slightly depressing, but Thursday Tracks is one of the only opportunities we have to talk about non-bookish related topics on our blog. 🙂

Thursday Quotables – Thursday 02 June + Cursed Child Updates

Hi all! It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for our second Thursday Quotables. Thursday Quotables is a weekly meme hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies, where you share a quote from the book you’re currently reading. Now I haven’t done one of these in a long time – it’s been more than a month since I last did one…

At the moment I’m currently at that stage when you finish a book and don’t know what to read next. I was planning to read Hollow City, and I went through a couple of chapters, but I just didn’t really get into it. I think I might either try Victoria Schwab’s A Gathering of Shadows, or A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray next. What do you think I should read?

Since I’m not really reading anything at this particular time, I thought I’d share a couple of quotes with you from the quotes on my wall.

image

“We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better.”

– J.K Rowling

It’s not a quote from any book, but it’s a really nice quote. I like it – it shows that although we may not live in Harry’s world, around magic, we can still imagine for the better.

“To love is to destroy and to be loved is to be the one destroyed.”

– Cassandra Clare

This is so deep. It’s a Jace Herondale quote, but you see, it kinda hints at Will. Will knew that for him  ‘to love is to destroy’ because of his curse. So…Cassandra Clare 🙂

“To really be a nerd, she’d decided, you had to prefer fictional worlds to the real one.

-Rainbow Rowell

Ha, I think I picked this quote because lets be honest, is there any bookworm who doesn’t want to live in fiction? I think not. 🙂

The main fictional world I want to live in is Hogwarts, and most people say that when they were 11 they never got a letter from Hogwarts, but when I was 11, I actually sent a letter to J.K Rowling, and I got a reply back. Obviously it wasn’t from JK herself, only some of the people working in Bloomsbury, but I was still really happy!

However, I definitely didn’t get my Hogwarts letter, but there’s still a chance left for a satyr to take me to Camp Half-Blood or for me to have the Sight. I just need to wait until I’m sixteen and you never know – mwahahaha the perks of being young.

It’s not gonna happen is it.

Cursed Child Update

Okay, this is the last day Pottermore will be releasing images of the main actors in character. On Tuesday we had Ginny, Harry and Albus Severus, yesterday we had Ron, Hermione and Rose and today’s characters are…

Draco and Scorpius Malfoy! I guessed right!

What do you think?

I’m gonna say straight off that I don’t like it. Nope, just no. Malfoy is just asdfgh no. And Scorpius is okay but it’s nothing like I imagineddddd ugh.

Well, if Scorose becomes canon, then I think I might forgive them.

Or if Scorpius gets sorted into Gryffindor. That would make me happy.

Thanks! Hope you enjoyed this post! Tell me what you think about my quotes and the Cursed Child cast! What do you think I should read next?

Thursday Tracks 26/5/16 #4

YAS!!!!! Exams are over, and I now have 10 days off school! I’m gonna enjoy each and every one of them!

So, now exams are over I’ll be back to posting! This week’s Thursday Tracks is going to be slightly special, as Vibha asked if she could join in. She is going to talk about some new bands she’s become obsessed with (and when I say obsessed, I mean OBSESSED. She has been spamming us with lyrics and making us listen to her favourite word of her favourite song again and again and again until we get headaches). But first, I’ll put some songs on!

Mia’s Music

Okay, so, I’ll start with a singer of the week. I’d like to do 5sos a) because I’m now a fan and b) because they’ve got me through exam week or Taylor Swift for getting me through exam week, but I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned them already so they can be my runners up.

(Just gonna say- I have never wanted to be a microphone as much as I do when I look at these pictures)

image

(Also, I haven’t had an opportunity before now to say that Taylor’s new hair makes me sad. I liked her old hair. And 5sos are changing their look too- Luke lost his lip ring and isn’t getting it replaced (noooooooo) and has gotten rid of his quiff (noooooooo again), Calum’s got rid of his highlights, ASH’S BANDANA IS GONE (disaster) and Michael’s no longer dying his hair. SO SAD.)

My singer of the week is going to be Meghan Trainor. For a start, she made an appearance in my maths exam along with Zayn Malik, Andy Murray, Simon Cowell, Justin Bieber and a few others (don’t ask- it was a strange maths exam). Also, I got my friend into her and now she is obsessed (though not quite as obsessed as Vibha is with her bands). Our Meghan Trainor session get quite intense.

image

And on the topic of my friend, can I just say that I am the champion on Taylor Swift songs? No matter who won the game we played, I am the true Swiftie. I’m gonna use this as a warning to any fake fans out there- if you try and do the “I’m such a huge swiftie” thing on me, it ain’t gonna work. I can tell a true Swiftie from a fake fan, and trust me, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of my fake fan anger. Warning over.

Now, for song of the week, I’m gonna choose Hair by Little Mix feat. Sean Paul. I rediscovered this song a few days ago and can’t stop listening to it over and over and over and over and over (you get the idea) again. It’s awesome.

And yeah, that’s all from me for this week, hope you enjoyed it, over to Vibha!

Vibha’s Music

I’m so excited to do this Thursday Tracks! It’s my first one, and my second last one as well probably (Mia wants me to do it next week as well), so this is super cool! Like Mia said, over the past couple of weeks we’ve been away, revising for exams, I (with the help of a friend) discovered three new bands which I have completely fallen in love with – the Emo Trinity. So you may have noticed from above that Mia’s music taste is quite pop-y, but to be honest I hate pop music. Therefore when I discovered the Emo Trinity – i.e Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance – I loved it!

image

Now I myself am not emo, no – I just like the music. My Chemical Romance is definitely the best of them in my opinion, although my friends who also listen to these bands definitely think Panic! is the best. I don’t know though, MCR is pretty amazing.

Okay so from what I can tell you have to do a singer, album and song of the week if I’m right?

I’ll start off with the song of the week – and for this I’d have to choose I Write Sins Not Tragedies by Panic! At The Disco. I definitely agree that this is the most overrated of their songs, but that isn’t gonna stop it being my favourite Panic! song :). Panic! At the Disco is a one man band, with Brendon Urie singing and playing all the music. There were other people, but they all left, so it’s just Brendon now.

Now for the album of the week, I’m going to say Folie à Deux by Fall Out Boy. This album is amazing, one of their bests along with American Beauty/American Psycho. There are some pretty awesome songs in there, my favourites being Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes and 20 Dollar Nose Bleed.

image

And last, but most definitely not least, artist of the week has to be My Chemical Romance. Like I said earlier, MCR is my favourite of the three bands. When Mia said I’ve been spamming her messages with lyrics – she meant MCR lyrics. And when she mentioned my favourite word – it’s Gerard saying the word ‘letter’ in the song Mama. Now I don’t know if any of you have heard this song, but if you have tell me in the comments. It’s so cool the way he pronounces the word! Tell me (and Mia, because she certainly needs some convincing), that I’m not insane.

Back to My Chemical Romance, the main reason why I didn’t put them on song/album of the week is because they are so amazing it’s just impossible to pick a favourite. One minute I’ll say that Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is my favourite album, next minute I’ll say Danger Days: The True Lives of Fabulous Killjoys is the best. I just cannot choose! But I think you’ve got the idea – My Chemical Romance is amazing – and I know they broke up three years ago before I discovered them, but I’m staying with the idea that they’ll get back together in 2019, year of the Killjoys.

image

Left to right: Bob Bryar (who left the band), Mikey Way, Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro

Hope you enjoyed that! It was much longer than the usual Thursday Tracks, but oh well 🙂
Thanks, and do tell us what you think about our favourite music!

Thursday Tracks Apology-28/4/16 – #3

Hey guys,

I’m really sorry for a) this being a day late and b) there not really being anything on here. Thing is, I’ve spent ages on this Thursday tracks, and it was almost finished and I came on this morning to just finish it off, and then it had gone. All my work had been deleted.

So, I’m afraid for now, I’m just going to tag a song and that’ll be it for  this week, but I promise next week I’ll do an extra special one.

So, this week the song will be…… Permanent Vacation by 5sos! This is a great song, and kinda sums me up at the moment. I have literally zero motivation. “SITUATION: NO MOTIVATION. DESTINATION: PERMANENT VACATION!” I’m trying to revise for exams and some subjects (*cough* chemistry *cough*) I just cannot get it in my head. I just sit there looking at a page of words thinking, I need to learn this, and just sitting there. It’s a big problem. If anyone has any revision tips, however stupid or basic, please please please say them, because I really need some new methods.

Thank you!

WIFSY Thursday-28th April 2016- Every Exquisite Thing

Hi guys! We’re back again for WIFSY! When I First Saw You is a weekly meme hosted on Sailing Through Books. Each week they post a new book cover of a YA book that we probably won’t have heard of, and we have to write what we think the blurb will be like, and then compare our one to the real one. It’s a lot of fun, and this is now our third time doing it! You can check out our first and second ones by clicking on those links. Enjoy!

This week’s cover is a hard one, but it looks quite cool. It’s of Every Exquisite Thing by Matthew Quick.

image.jpeg

Mia’s Blurb: Max has alway been different. It’s hard to blend in when you have learning difficulties (A/N. I’m not really sure of the name of the sort of learning difficulty I’m thinking of so you’ll just have to imagine it). His mum says he sees the world in different way. His learning specialist teacher says his brain is wired differently.  His classmates say he’s just stupid.

Max might be stupid at maths, but that doesn’t mean his brain is small. Because Max notices things that other people miss. With no friends at school, and his home life falling apart, Max seeks comfort in the simple things in life: mainly, nature. He sits for hours in his own world, quietly drawing beautfiul landscapes in his school books.

But this kind of peace can’t last long. Max must come out of his shell and embrace his differences, if he ever wants to move forward in life.

A beautiful story about fitting in, Every Exquisite Thing is a must read for everyone.

Vibha’s blurb: With a pen in his hand and some paper in front of him, Cal can get lost in a world of his own creation. When he is in his world, everything around him halts to a stop, everybody near him fades away and the voices are merely unimportant whispers. Because when Cal is in his world, he doesn’t realise what’s happening to the people around him, he doesn’t realise that the world he lives in, the world he has been in ever since he can remember, comes crashing down.

Because for Cal, dreams are dangerous, dreams are unpredictable, dreams can merge with reality in the blink of an eye. Cal’s art is blurring the sharp lines between two completely different worlds, merging them together in one dangerous combination.

One dream is all it takes for the world as Cal knows it to fall apart.

By the author of The Silver Linings Playbook, Every Exquisite Thing is a novel for everyone.

Lynette’s blurb:  Nate isn’t the smartest boy in the world, and he knows it. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t add simple numbers together, or even spell the easiest of words. His classmates and teachers find him stupid. But his parents think he isn’t trying. They think that Nate simply has a bad attitude and is trying to be useless for fun.

Nate wants to be clever. Nate wants to be the top of his class. But without anyone ever believing in him, he finds that he is slowly losing that drive, and changing into a complete different person.

This story about self-confidence and pursuing your dreams is a book that everyone must read.

The actual blurb:

From the bestselling author of The Silver Linings Playbook comes a heartfelt and unexpected novel in the vein of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Nanette O’Hare is an unassuming teen who has played the role of dutiful daughter, hard-working student, and star athlete for as long as she can remember. But when a beloved teacher gives her his worn copy of The Bubblegum Reaper—the mysterious, out-of-print cult-classic—the rebel within Nanette awakens.

As she befriends the reclusive author, falls in love with a young troubled poet, and attempts to insert her true self into the world with wild abandon, Nanette learns the hard way that sometimes rebellion comes at a high price.

A celebration of the self and the formidable power of story, Every Exquisite Thing is Matthew Quick at his finest.

Our Verdicts:

Mia: Wow. That was not what I expected. I don’t really think it has much to do with the cover- I could never have got that plot from the cover. Also I don’t really see how to title fits… I guess it becomes clear during the story. But anyway, mine had nothing to do with the real one. This one was really hard- the cover doesn’t give much away. However, it was fun, and I can’t wait for next week! Fingers crossed I’ll do better.

Vibha: Wow, I was really off the original blurb. I knew from the start that the blurb would probably be some sort of contemporary novel, and my synopsis started off like that too, but then I kinda got carried away, and my contemporary morphed into this weird fantasy-type synosis which has literally nothing to do with the covers…oops! The original blurb sounds really cool though, I’m not sure if it’s my kind of book, but it looks pretty awesome.

Lynette: That was a surprise. I didn’t expect the actual blurb to be like that, and I also wasn’t expecting a girl as the main character. I’m also surprised with myself at how the name Nate is quite similar to Nanette, but as a male version. The only thing that I got sort of close to was that the main character changes at one point, but other than that I was really off. I wasn’t too fond of the cover, but the blurb sounds okay, although I don’t think I’m going to read it.

Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Bookworm Delights

So here I am for my first Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by those at The Broke and The Bookish. Every week a new ‘Top Ten’ topic appears, and you have to make your own bookish list for it. Anyone can do them, just make sure you link back to their blog!

This time, the one was Top Ten Bookworm Delights. So it’s basically ten things which a bookworm would love! It is in no particular order.

1. Buying new books

Well, being a bookworm, you love reading. You love books. So what’s better than buying a whole batch of books for yourself to bury your head into? New books are so much nicer than library books, as they’re so new and beautiful.

2. Discussing a book with friends

Being a solitary bookworm must be boring. So that’s why I’m glad all my friends are obsessed bookworms too! Talking about a book with your friends is one of the best topics to talk about.

3. Borrowing a whole tower of books from the library

Buying books requires money. So that’s why sometimes going to the library is the best choice. You can borrow a huge tower of books, and hide in your room reading away.

4. Reading for ages in bed or somewhere else comfy with hot chocolate

Lying in a bed and finding all the different positions you can use for reading is just great. It’s so comfy and warm to read in bed, and it’s a bonus if you have some sweet hot chocolate at the side too.

5. When a book you love gets made into a movie (even if it’s not that accurate)

Don’t you just love it when you can finally see one of your favourite books get turned into a proper movie? Of course, the book is always better, but seeing a book in action is awesome.

6. Really nice bookmarks

I don’t like folding the corner of a page in my book to keep my place. Bookmarks are the best. Especially if they’re really cool or pretty. My friends got me a bookmark as one of my birthday presents last year. Here is a picture of what they got for me.

7. Becoming attached to fictional characters

Fictional characters are 100 x better than real life people. Real people are just annoying. But fictional characters are so much more attractive. Don’t even bother disagreeing. You know it’s true.

8. Those beautiful hardbacks

Although paperbacks are lighter and easier to carry on, hardbacks look beautiful on a bookshelf. Especially the old classic types, but you don’t see those much unless if it’s for a really old book.

9. The scent of books

Books smell so wonderful. It’s such an indescribable scent, but they just smell so nice. It sounds weird, but they give off a lovely, homely smell.

10. Amazing books!

Those books which are so amazing that you can’t stop thinking or dreaming about them. Those books which you will forever love. Those books which have beautiful writing and beautiful plots.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post! I’m sorry that it’s one day late, but I have been busy with revision and other things. If anyone has also done this post, put the link in the comments and I’ll try to check it out!

Musing Monday + Weekly Wrap Up (April 25)

Hi all! We’re back to the start of a new week, it’s Monday, which means it’s our second week participating in the Musing Monday meme. Musing Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Books And A Beat. It’s a discussion post, where we talk about what we’re currently reading, what we plan to read next, etc. and then discuss a bookish musing. Last week, the first week we took part in this meme, Lynette talked about her least favourite plot device. You can check out her post here. This week we made a slight change, and added a ‘Weekly Wrap Up’ to the post. It should be pretty much the same though, not to worry! Meanwhile, if you’d like to participate in this meme all you need to do is link back to Books And A Beat and answer the questions! I hope you enjoy my post, and do drop a comment below to tell me what you think about this week’s musing.

Your favorite poem, or collection of poetry?

Weekly Wrap-up

I’m currently reading….

So I’m currently reading Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard. I didn’t think the start was too engaging, and I found it was really similar to The Hunger Games, but as I slowly progress on through the book I’m actually finding it quite interesting. It IS different to other books I’ve read, so I guess it’s only the first few chapters that I found typical of most dystopian novels. The characters are so shippable – it makes me so happy! I’ll probably finish the book sometime this week, so although I don’t promise it, I should post a review sometime in the next few days.

Up next I think I’ll read…

Up next I’ll probably be reading Glass Sword, Red Queen #2. However, if my friend forgets to bring it in to school and lend it to me, then I hope to start the Throne of Glass series, which should be pretty exciting. It’s one of those series which everyone else has read, but me. I’ve heard so many good things about Sarah J. Maas, so I can’t wait to start it!

I wish I could read….

I really wish I could read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. This book has been on my TBR for too long…2 years long…The annoying thing is that I have Hollow City and Library of Souls, the second and third books, but I don’t have Miss Peregrine’s itself, so I can’t start reading it. A little bit of a problem…

I’m super excited to tell you about Marissa Meyer…

Some bookish news – It’s a bit late, but it’s still pretty exciting – Marissa Meyer is doing Camp NaNoWriMo! She’s writing a superhero trilogy, it’s called the Gatlon trilogy – she’s drafting it at the moment! Super exciting, as Marissa Meyer is such an amazing author. Meanwhile, Heartless should be coming out around November 8th! Obviously it may be delayed a little bit…perhaps by 8 days…then it would be released on my birthday!

Weekly musing – your favourite poem or collection of poetry…

Well…I don’t know, I’m not really a poetry person, however, reading Lady Midnight, of course I’d have to say Annabel Lee. Annabel Lee is a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, it’s awesome.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s Musing Monday + Wrap Up! Comment below – what’s your favourite poem?
